US Under-20 national team head coach Tab Ramos
The US Under-20 national team claimed their second straight win in the Marbella Tournament in Spain on Saturday, blanking the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 team 1-0 at San Pedro Stadium.
US manager Tab Ramos made eight changes to the starting lineup that led the USA to a 4-3 win over Russia’s Under-21s on Wednesday. Columbus Crew youngster Romain Gall, who scored two goals against the Russians, came off the bench on Saturday.
Gall was one of seven MLS players that featured in the match, including Orlando City duo Tommy Redding and Tyler Turner, New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Santiago Castaño and his Red Bulls teammate Matt Miazga, versatile FC Dallas talent Kellyn Acosta and San Jose Earthquakes up-and-comer Tommy Thompson.
Atletico Madrid forward Dembakwi Yomba netted the US game-winner against the Irish, scoring in the 13th minute, and the USA made the lead hold up. Castaño came up with a couple of saves and Acosta nearly found the back of the net on two other occasions, including a shot that hit the crossbar in the 20th minute.
The US Under-20s, who are now 10-1-2 in 2014 and 4-0-2 against international opposition this year, wrap up their participation in the tournament against Canada on Tuesday at the Marbella Football Center at 10:30 am ET.
